The MA in Nonproliferation and Terrorism Studies (MANPTS) is the world’s first graduate degree combining the knowledge and skills needed to curtail the spread of weapons of mass destruction (WMD) and respond effectively to terrorism.
The MA in Nonproliferation and Terrorism Studies draws upon interdisciplinary curriculum and integrates policy analysis, international security, science and technology, and history to prepare students for careers in combating violent extremism and WMD proliferation. Students also have the opportunity to take courses in the Graduate School of International Policy & Management on related subjects such as regional and area studies, global economics, cyber security and international environmental issues.

The MA in Nonproliferation and Terrorism Studies program, apart of the Graduate School of International Policy & Management, benefits from world-renowned faculty and research centers: the James Martin Center for Nonproliferation Studies (CNS) and the Monterey Terrorism Research and Education Program (MonTREP).
Students specializing in Terrorism Studies pursue careers in government agencies, international organizations, NGOs, and private sector companies dedicated to understanding, preventing, and responding to terrorism. In their professional careers, Terrorism Studies graduates monitor and assess the leadership, motivations, plans and intentions of terrorist groups and their state and non-state sponsors. Terrorism Studies specialists also produce a range of analytical products, brief policymakers, and provide analytical support for law enforcement, military operations, anti-money laundering and counterterrorist finance. Organizations employing recent graduates of the Terrorism Studies program report that our alumni come prepared with a deep understanding of the complex phenomenon of terrorism and a strong set of skills for counterterrorism analysis.
