Millions of people around the world face a wide range of issues related to trade and development.

Consider these questions: How does trade contribute to community, national, and global development through access to technology, capital, and more?

What role do multinational corporations play in shaping global development? Do these questions inspire or intrigue you?   If so, the Trade and Development Certificate Program could launch you on the path to become a true agent of global change.

Curriculum Design

Over a four-week period, this program will expose participants to an integrated curriculum covering trade and trade policy, development strategies and practice, and their overlap and interactions with other crucial global issues, such as the environment.

Program content is delivered by policy and business faculty at the Monterey Institute and covers the economic underpinnings of global trade, laws and institutions related to this field, and the relationship between trade and international development issues ranging from the environment to labor standards.  Instructional modules include both lectures and “hands-on” learning from case studies, simulations, and group discussions.

Based upon the graduate level curriculum for the Trade, Investment, and Development track of the MA in International Policy Studies program at the Monterey Institute, the Global Trade and Development Fellowship program is designed for upper-level undergraduate students, graduate students and beginning professionals.  Given the professional, skills-based components of the trade program, participants will have the unique opportunity to interact with senior trade faculty.

A modular design allows students to take full advantage of the knowledge and experience of multiple Monterey Institute faculty and guest experts.  Students will develop the practical knowledge and professional skills necessary to become effective participants in the process of constructive global change through international trade.

The program involves intensive class and group work, with field exposure to international trade experts working in agriculture and technology industries in Central California.  Participants will also receive one-on-one career strategy services from the Monterey Institute career advising team.
