FLEDS logo

The Foreign Language Education Symposium (FLEDS) is an annual conference for language teachers to discuss current trends and issues in foreign language education. The Symposium is hosted by the Graduate School of Translation, Interpretation, and Language Education (GSTILE).

The 2017 Symposium will be held on Saturday, October 28, 2017.

Theme for 2017: Making Language Relevant

The theme for this year’s symposium is Making Language Relevant. In current political and academic climates, it is critical to persuade our students, communities, and society about the relevance of foreign language education.

Applicants will receive a response regarding their proposal by August 20th, 2017.

We are seeking proposals for 2 different types of symposium events that connect with the conference theme.

Proposal 1: Workshops

Workshops will offer attendees a new approach, a new activity or a new tool for teaching language or equipping learners to teach themselves. Proposals should describe the workshop focus in detail, including plans for engaging participants with the topic/materials/techniques.

Proposal 2: Tips, Tools, and Activities

Proposals should describe favorite tips, tools, and/or activities designed to provide quick takeaways for participants for application in their classroom to make language relevant.
