Curriculum
The MPA degree program requires a minimum of 60 credits based on the following requirements.
Core Curriculum (16 credits)
- IPOL 8501 Introduction to Public Policy (4 credits)
- IPOL 8504 Data Analysis for Public Policy (4 credits)
- Economics (4 credits, select one):
Advanced Language Requirements (12 credits)
Students must complete at least 12 credits in one language at the 300-level or above. Please review our language proficiency requirements for more details about this component of your degree.
MPA Required Curriculum (19-22 credits)
Management (4 credits, select one)
- IPOL 8514 Managing Non-Governmental & Social Purpose Organizations
- IPOL 8519 Managing Public and Non-profit Organizations
- IPOL 8585 International Organizations
Finance and Administration (3 or 4 credits, select one)
- IPOL 8530 Finance Function in Nonprofits and in Public Organizations
- IPOL 8534 Organizational Sustainability of NGOs
- IMGT 8530 Survey of Accounting
Evaluation (4 credits, select one)
- IPOL 8523 Program Evaluation in the Field
- IPOL 8644 Seminar: Program Evaluation
- IPOL 8582 Evaluation Methods
Capstone (4-6 credits, select one)

MPA-approved Workshops or Short Courses (4 credits)
Electives (14-18 credits)
The remainder of the credits will be selected by you from a wide range of courses allowing you to specialize in one of these areas:
- Leading mission-driven organizations
- Managing and generating human, financial and material resources
- Practicing good governance
- Creating policy environments conducive to sustainable social change
- Using qualitative and quantitative information to design solution strategies to critical problems
- Evaluating programs, projects and initiatives
- Developing organizational and individual capacity
- Building networks and partnerships with diverse actors
