A letter from Sandra Dow, MBA in Global Management program chair:
Welcome to the Fisher MBA in Global Impact Management!
As an MBA student at the Middlebury Institute of International Studies at Monterey, you will have the opportunity to participate in a groundbreaking program that prepares you for the unprecedented challenges facing 21st century businesses and non-profits.
Business increasingly faces unparalleled challenges that almost defy traditional practices and thinking, that bring greater and greater levels of risk to success and profitability. Climate change, population growth, and urbanization, raw materials and energy shortage, extreme inequality, and global terrorism increasingly threaten the long-term viability of mainstream enterprise and demand new ways to manage the associated risks.
In this less-certain environment, the way forward is through nimble, out-of-the-box solutions that don’t fit traditional molds. The newly redesigned Fisher MBA in Global Impact Management from the Middlebury Institute prepares you with the tools and training needed in business management for a world increasingly shaped by momentous challenges and changes.
Our Future-Focused, Redesigned Curriculum
The Institute offers an integrated, comprehensive 21st century curriculum featuring collaborative learning, immersive field experience, team teaching and a raw case approach. The curriculum is diverse and rich with opportunity. The first year of the 20-month MBA includes in-depth business fundamentals plus several electives and the possibility of studying abroad in the spring semester. You can even spend the summer in an internship building your resume.
A Unique Learning Environment
If you visit our campus you’ll notice a number of things that set us apart. We have small classes (because of our seven-to-one student-to-faculty ratio), collaborative learning, team-teaching, a surprisingly diverse student body, faculty mentoring, raw case studies, unique capstone experiences (immersive learning experiences that range from business consulting opportunities to offshore, on-the-ground assignments), and much more.
Our students find themselves instilled with well-earned confidence along with a breadth and depth of business skills that truly sets them apart. We see evidence of that—and the strength of our new curriculum—virtually every time our students enter competitions. Many win awards. In just the last couple of years Institute graduates have won or were finalists in numerous global business competitions, from the World Economic Forum in Davos to the Aspen MBA case competition to the Hult International Competition.
I invite you to explore our website and then come visit us on campus. Experience this amazing place where you can earn your degree, a multi-cultural learning environment set against the backdrop of one of the world’s most beautiful places, the Monterey Peninsula.
