Twenty-five Monterey Institute students are taking part in a year-long development practicum experience that includes a fall semester course on policy analysis and project design, a research trip to Peru in January, and a spring semester course focused on data analysis and crafting a final report.
When Monterey Institute alumna Lucy Jodlowska needed to hire people with international business skills, cultural sensitivity and high language proficiency for an important project in Nicaragua, she knew where to look: “I wanted the whole package and knew I could find it at MIIS.”
Alumni Anne-Claire Benoit (MPA ’12), Kathleen Gordon (MPA ’12), and Bill Reinecke (MBA ’10) were chosen for one-year assignments in Africa from hundreds of qualified applicants for the very selective Catholic Relief Services Fellowships.
"You could say it is any MPA's dream project,” says Monterey Institute alumnus Craig Middleton of his leading role in the creation and running of the Presidio Trust.
Wikisway, an internet start-up company founded by Monterey Institute alumnus Huston Hedinger (MAIPS ’12), was selected to be funded by the Portland Seed Fund and is creating a lot of buzz in its beta phase.
