The day before classes begin, all SILP students are required to attend an orientation session that will include general program policy information, academic requirements, class schedule, campus orientation, curriculum details, placement information, and computer login/access information. During the initial General Orientation Session, students from each language program will receive general program information and have the opportunity to mingle with students and faculty from the other language programs.
Language-Specific Orientation Session
There will also be a Language-Specific Orientation Session that takes place just after the General Orientation. During this session, students will spend time with the Language Program Coordinator, instructors, tutors and activity facilitators for their specific language program. At this time, students have the opportunity to ask questions regarding their program specifics and become familiar with their program faculty.
A very important component of Orientation Day is the placement process. Although you may have taken a pre-arrival diagnostic test and/or oral interview by phone, unless you are an absolute beginner, you will still need to take the placement test on Orientation Day. This test takes place after your Language Specific Orientation Session and will be facilitated by the Language Program Coordinator for your language. Results from the placement test will be posted by 6pm the evening of Orientation Day and will remain posted through the first day of classes. Questions regarding placement should be addressed to the Language Program Coordinator for your program.
Important Forms and Policies
All SILP students will receive a letter by mail prior to Orientation which will include the Orientation Day schedule, a campus map, refund policy, and general academic policies. Grading and Attendance Policies, Pass/No Pass forms, transcript information, tuition refund schedule, along with other important program information will be included in your orientation folder to be picked up on Orientation Day. Your orientation folder will also include your student ID number and can only be picked up if tuition has been paid in full. Please arrive to orientation early if you have an outstanding balance, so you can finalize your paperwork before the General Orientation meeting at 10am. Information about the time, date, and location of SILP Student Orientation will be included in your Orientation Day schedule.
