Incoming Middlebury Institute graduate students: submit the MIIS student application form. If you submit an application online and pay the $50 fee again, this fee will not be refunded.

Step 1: Apply Online

The 2015 application deadline is April 15, 2015.

The application fee of $50 is waived for incoming and current MIIS students (use blue button above) or anyone being referred by a MIIS or SILP alumnus.

To take advantage of the alumni referral offer: complete this paper application to note the name of the person who referred you to the program.

Step 2: Submit Academic Transcripts

All applicants must submit academic transcripts to complete their application packet. Incoming Middlebury Institute students do not need to re-submit transcripts to the Institute.

Step 3: Take the Preliminary Placement Test

Unless you are an absolute beginner, you are required to take the online preliminary placement test before your application is considered complete. Each applicant will receive emailed instructions for completing the online test within 2-3 business days of submitting the online application.

Applicants will be notified of an admissions decision one to three weeks after completing the Preliminary Placement Test.

About Applications

Age Guidelines

Our intensive program generally requires that students be at least 18 years of age. The Summer Intensive Language Program will occasionally admit students between the ages of 16 to 18. Participants under the age of 18 must provide proof that they are in custody of a legal guardian living in the local area. Under-age participants are also required to submit two letters of recommendation from teachers or advisers that attest to their fitness for intensive language study. All applicants under 18 will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Applicants to the Summer Intensive Language Program may defer application (with deposits) for up to one year. To defer to the following year’s summer program, please contact the Language & Professional Programs office at 831.647.4115 or email Deferral is not automatic and MUST be requested by the student.

Please note that classes are subject to cancellation due to low enrollment. Students will be notified of any such cancellations no later than May 4. In the case of cancellation, applicants will receive a full tuition refund, including deposit and application fee.
