What is the purpose of EPTI?
The six-week summer intensive EPTI program provides advanced language enhancement courses in English translation and interpretation for students who have been admitted to the Institute’s Translation, Interpretation & Localization Management program. The goals are to increase participants' fluency and accuracy in English and to prepare them for the intense linguistic requirements of their degree programs.
Why have I been asked to attend EPTI?
In most cases, the results of your Early Diagnostic Test (EDT) indicated that your English language skills need additional improvement in order for you to succeed in our rigorous MA program. The faculty of your department has decided that you could benefit from more English language instruction. In some cases, students who have limited experience living or working in an English-speaking country are asked to attend the EPTI program. Successful completion of the EPTI program is a pre-requisite to your admission to the Institute’s MA program.
What are the EPTI program dates for 2012?
July 2 - August 10, 2012
How much does the EPTI program cost?
Tuition and fees for 2012 total $3,850.00. All students must also show proof of health insurance coverage. If you do not have your own policy, you can purchase coverage through the Institute. These fees do not include living expenses.
Do I need to apply for EPTI?
No additional application is necessary. If you have been asked to attend the EPTI program, please submit your Certificate of Financial Responsibility (CFR) and your $500 MA tuition deposit no later than May 1, 2012. By submitting your CFR and deposit, you will be indicating to the Institute that you intend to attend the EPTI program.
What is the weekly EPTI schedule like?
EPTI is a rigorous program which aims to prepare students for their graduate-level coursework. Students attend English content and skills classes each morning. These classes are designed to hone the language skills you specifically need to succeed in our Translation and Interpretation programs, and more importantly as a professional translator or interpreter. Students also attend afternoon workshops with graduate school faculty. The program is enhanced with field trips linked to the content studied each week and special assignments and projects.
Are scholarships available to cover the tuition and fees of my summer program?
Yes, funding for EPTI students may be available through the Betty & David Jones Language Scholarships. To be eligible for the scholarship, candidates must be admitted to a degree program in Translation, Interpretation and Localization Management for fall 2012 at the Institute of International Studies. Is there an exam that I am required to pass at the end of EPTI?
