Can I get conditional admission to an undergraduate or graduate school?

The IESL program has conditional admission partnerships with four local institutions. If you meet all other requirements for admission except the English proficiency requirement, you can be conditionally accepted to one of these schools, join the IESL program, and either take another TOEFL/IELTS test or pass out of the appropriate level for transfar. Partner institutions include: the Monterey Peninsula College (MPC), California State University Monterey Bay (CSUMB), Monterey Institute of International Studies, and Cabrillo College.

For CSUMB:

  • Students can apply and be granted conditional admission, which means they meet all admissions requirements except the English proficiency requirement.
  • Instead of submitting a new TOEFL score, a student can meet the English proficiency requirement by successfully completing level 5 in core courses, and showing a grade point average of ‘B’ or higher throughout the program.

For MPC and Cabrillo College:

  • Students can apply and be granted conditional admission, which means they meet all admissions requirements except the English proficiency requirement.
  • Instead of submitting a new TOEFL score, a student can meet the English proficiency requirement by successfully completing level 4 in core courses, and showing a ‘B’ grade point average.

For The Monterey Institute (MIIS):

  • Students who are being sponsored by a partnered sponsoring organization (Bolashak, SACM, HCED, Kuwaiti Cultural Mission, etc.) can apply and be granted conditional admission to graduate programs at the Monterey Institute. This means that they meet all admissions requirements except the English proficiency requirement.
  • Students must submit a TOEFL score that meets the minimum requirement for admission after completing at least one session of ESL.

Please contact us for further details and information about the possibility of conditional admission.
