Jennifer Grode

ESL Instructor

Jennifer is originally from Oklahoma and attended college at the University of Kansas, where she earned undergraduate degrees in linguistics and French language and literature. Upon graduation, she was selected to be a part of Teach for America's 2006 corps and moved to Baton Rouge, Louisiana to teach middle school special education, reading, and English in a low-income community. She subsequently moved to New Orleans, where she was fortunate enough to take part in the post-Katrina rebuilding of the city's school system.

The idea of combining her former passion (linguistics) with her new passion (education) attracted Jennifer to the M.A. TESOL program at the Monterey Institute of International Studies. During her time at MIIS, she co-chaired CATESOL's 2010 Northern Regional Conference and received the opportunity to present at the national conventions of both TESOL and NAFSA. She recently graduated with an additional certificate in Language Program Administration (LPA).

While she enjoyed the opportunity to work once more for Teach for America as a teacher trainer in the Mississippi Delta in the summer of 2011, Jennifer was excited to return to the MIIS campus and join the dedicated staff and faculty of the Institute's Intensive English Programs as full-time instructor the following fall. She considers her job to be one of the most exciting and rewarding ones possible, as she is constantly learning from both her students and her co-workers in the supportive, stimulating environment that so characterizes the MIIS community.
