Language and intercultural communication are central to all degree programs at the Institute.
Language Shapes Our Culture
Language and intercultural communication lie at the very heart of the Institute's mission. We teach students to view language as a way to connect and facilitate dialogue between different peoples and cultures.
Our graduate degree programs integrate language into their core curricula, enabling students to reach across cultural and linguistic barriers towards more global career opportunities. Our language and intercultural studies program focus on professionally-relevant content areas such as politics, business, policy, environment, and social issues.
We offer the following languages as a component to all International Policy and Management graduate degree programs:
Upon request at the time of admission, other language study may be arranged to fulfill your degree requirements. For example, additional language courses offered in Spring 2014 were: Portuguese, Korean, German, Persian Farsi, and Turkish. For more details, contact your enrollment advisor or email email@example.com.
Improve Your Language Proficiency
Summer Language Programs and Scholarships
If you do not have proficiency in a language, don’t let that discourage you. We may ask that you work on your language skills through our Middlebury language programs or through a customized language plan. Scholarship opportunities are also available for our Summer Intensive Language Program, English Preparation for Graduate Students, Intensive English Programs (ESL), or Middlebury Language Schools.
Language Placement Testing
New students are required to complete an online language placement test prior to orientation week.
Each of our graduate degree programs has its own language and intercultural competency requirements:
