Professor Oliva is currently doing research on Distance Learning and the Teaching of Spanish as a Foreign Language.
Professor Oliva has taught Teaching English as a Foreign Language courses in various schools in Buenos Aires, Argentina before emigrating to the US. Since then he has been working at Craven Community College in North Carolina and Empire State College in New York. He has been teaching courses on methodology during summer time at Universidad Complutense de Madrid and designed curricula to teach medical Spanish and Long distance courses.

SPLA 8232 - Topics in the Hispanic World I
It is an intermediate course that establishes vocabulary and grammar as the foundation of the well-balanced development of listening, speaking, reading and writing. At the same time, the incorporation of vocabulary and grammar within the readings allows students to see grammar and vocabulary as part of the content.

La clase de acontecimientos de actualidad en el mundo hispano estará enfocada en temas de política y sociedad. El estudiante trabajará con bibliografía adecuada como lecturas de carácter autentico, películas y noticias de diferentes medios de comunicación. Este curso le permitirá al estudiante desarrollar su destreza lingüística y entender temas de contenido que han dado forma a la sociedad en la actualidad.
