Middlebury Institute of International Studies at Monterey

Celine Colvin

I am passionate about helping people communicate. I thoroughly enjoy bridging cultural and language gaps. As a translator and an interpreter, I have the opportunity to do just that in a variety of settings and situations.

Teaching at MIIS gives me a chance to pass my passion on to others. In my translation courses, I focus on conveying the practical skills my students will need as professional translators. Those include translation skills as well as the skills needed to work with clients and other translators.

Previous Work
I split my time between translation, interpretation and teaching. When I am not teaching at MIIS, I am either working on translation projects varying from fashion style guides to law enforcement training programs, or interpreting for corporate clients or French-speaking high-level government officials meeting with their US counterparts. I regularly work for major international organizations, including the World Bank and the Organization of American States, as well as for the US Department of State and other US government agencies. I have worked in a number of countries across Africa and Europe, as well as in India, where I lived for over a year.
