Sustainable Campus

We focus on the responsible use of our resources in practical applications and in the education and the engagement of our students.

Welcome to a sustainable campus.

Several unique aspects of the Institute have fostered our commitment to sustainability: an international focus, a solution orientation and a location in beautiful Monterey, California.

With a truly global faculty and student body, we understand the scope and the urgency of the current environmental crisis. We recognize that every business, individual and academic institution must reduce its environmental impact. Our world-class faculty, students, and alumni bring decades of experience in creating and affecting the policies that drive today's environmental movement.

Our International Environmental Policy program provides inspiration and momentum to the campus-wide sustainability effort. The Center for the Blue Economy capitalizes on the opportunities provided by the location of our campus between the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary and Big Sur.

MIIS has made sustainability a fundamental operating principle. The Sustainability Council was founded in the Spring of 2008 as an interdisciplinary group serving focused on advancing sustainability on campus. Visit What We Do to learn more about our initiatives on campus and, most importantly, Get Involved.
