Earth Week

Each year, the Institute community hosts an annual week-long celebration for Earth Day, highlighting a range of sustainability aspects both on campus and globally.

The idea for Earth Week was born from a group of environmental policy graduate students wanting to raise awareness about sustainability issues. Earth Week's mission is to catalyze the Institute community to be the sustainable solution, and the vision is to actively educate our campus and the wider Monterey community to cultivate environmental leadership, innovation, and cultural change.

In the past, students have dedicated each day of the week to a different sustainability theme. Past themes have included energy, transportation, water, trash, and food. Events range from movie screenings and speaker series, to potlucks and trivia nights. Here are some of the past events students have hosted:

  • Campus visit from Tesla
  • Local garden bike tour
  • Presentations from the Institute professors and local sustainability professionals
  • Vegan cook-off and potluck
  • Composting workshop

Planning for Earth Week 2015 will begin in December of this year. Look out for emails at that time if you want to join the planning committee!
