5 Group

Earlier this year, longtime faculty member and Institute supporter Peter Grothe gathered together a group of students he had worked with as Director of International Student Programs and captured an image that might well be captioned A Portrait of the Monterey Experience.

The image features:
Nadia Fadir of Morocco (MAIPS, May 2009),
Olga Lopo of Angola (MAIPS, May 2009),
Zachary Wells of the USA (MAIEP, May 2009),
Ye Lu of China, (MATI, May 2010),
Claudia Tebay of Argentina (MATI, May 2010), and
Hjalte Hojsgaard of Denmark (MBA, August 2009).

The irony is that while this image might be considered unique or exotic on many campuses in the United States, at Monterey, where 35 percent of the student population is made up of international students, it is the stuff of everyday campus life - representatives of six nations on five continents taking a moment to reflect on the life-changing experience of an international graduate education at the Monterey Institute of International Studies.
