In January 2008, Trustee David Jones and his wife Betty put forth a $3 million challenge for academic excellence to the Institute community. Their goal was to attract others to support the academic excellence initiative, with a promise of matching gifts up to $3 million toward that effort, "We didn't want to be orphans in this; we wanted to make sure others were helping with us. We were glad to make a sizable gift as long as we found other donors who agreed with us and would contribute."
In this last month of its fiscal year, the Institute hopes to meet that challenge. With more than $2.7 million raised to date, gifts made to the annual fund - including those to support student scholarships - will not only benefit Institute students and faculty, but will also be matched 1:1 and help MIIS to complete the challenge.
