Three recent graduates of the Middlebury Institute, Danny Pavitt MAIPD ’16, Nick Stulck MPA ’17 and Lizzie Falconer MPA ’17 are among this year’s cohort of 25 Catholic Relief Services (CRS) International Development Fellows. Each year CRS places fellows in their county programs for ten month assignments where they can draw on their previous education and work experience while broadening their skills. Most of the fellowships lead to permanent positions. This year over 600 people applied for the program.

“The application process is rigorous,” Falconer said from Lilongwe, Malawi where she will be working on projects in agriculture livelihoods, early childhood development and emergency response. The application included two video interviews, a language test and a full day in-person interview at headquarters in Baltimore. “Professor Beryl Levinger, and my career advisors Scott Webb and Gael Meraud were key in preparing me for every step of the interview process. I would not be here without them.

Pavitt will be exploring “all aspects of both operational and programmatic sides of CRS’ projects in the Philippines, with the intention of moving into a more permanent position once the Fellowship ends next year.” He says he feels well prepared for the position from his time at the Institute, and even though he has only been in Manila for a few days he has already met a few fellow alumni.

Falconer is looking forward to a great learning on the job experience. “With the fellowship, I will have the opportunity to learn about all sides of the organization: from programming to procurement, operations and finance. It is a wonderful compliment to my MPA degree from MIIS!”

Webb is hosting an information session about the CRS Fellowship for current students this Thursday, September 7 at 12:20 PM in Morse B106.
