The mood was purely celebratory at the Sixth Annual Named Scholarship Luncheon held April 6 at the Monterey Marriott. The annual event brings together generous donors with those students who are benefiting from their scholarship gifts. It is a wonderful opportunity for students to meet and personally thank their donor and for donors to see the impact their gift is making in the lives of the students who benefit from generosity, with more than $900,000 a year given to support named scholarships.

The program included a short video montage of students expressing their thanks for scholarship support. Following the prompt of, “With my degree, I will…” students shared their future goals ranging from “save the environment” and “educate Syria” to “improve transparency and accountability.”

As one of this year’s student speakers, Naweed Nayib, noted in his remarks, scholarship support not only builds academic success, but builds community and a lifetime of memories. “My experience at MIIS has been a journey of self-discovery. Now, I believe in myself. I believe I can introduce myself to myself,” he said.  “My MIIS experience has elements of personal growth, memorable relationships, and impactful knowledge. I’m grateful to have received the scholarship that helped make this all possible.”
