First Visiting Fellow to Address Israeli-Palestinian Conflict

Victor J. Friedman, associate professor of organizational behavior and co-chair of the Action Research Center for Social Justice at the Max Stern Yezreel Valley College in Israel, will share his experiences working in, on, and around the Israel-Palestine conflict for the past three decades in a March 7 public lecture and discussion at the Middlebury Institute of International Studies. Friedman will be on campus March 2-9 as the first recipient of Middlebury Institute’s new Tyler Visiting Fellow in Residence Award.

Much of Friedman’s work focuses on helping individuals, organizations, and communities learn, especially under conditions of uncertainty and conflict. In his comments, he is expected to offer his views on the current global political landscape and invite questions from and discussion with the audience. In addition to his scholarly work, Friedman serves on the board of the Global Campaign for Middle East Peace and is active in the ATD Fourth World Movement for the eradication of extreme poverty.

The Tyler Visiting Fellowship in Residence is made possible by a gift from William H. and Susanne S. Tyler. In addition to the March 7 public lecture and discussion, during his week on campus, Friedman will give private classroom talks for Institute faculty and students on topics such as incorporating action research into the classroom, relational learning, and careers in action research and learning.

The March 7 lecture and discussion will take place from 6:30-8:00 p.m. in room B104 of the Morse Building, 426 Van Buren Street on the Institute’s downtown Monterey campus. This event is free and open to the public.
