Two familiar voices from the Monterey Institute were heard on National Public Radio within three days last week.
On Friday, Monterey Institute President Emeritus Robert Gard participated in an NPR panel discussing the Obama Administration’s decision to reverse policy and scrap the planned missile shield defense system for Eastern Europe. The decision, hailed in Moscow, was met with controversy in some eastern European capitals. The panel also included Edward Lucas, Central and Eastern Europe correspondent for The Economist, Jamie Fly, executive director of Foreign Policy Initiative, and Stephen F. Cohen, professor of Russian Studies at New York University.
Meanwhile, Institute alumnus Juan Sheenan (MAIPS ‘01) was quoted on NPR’s The World on Wednesday evening. Sheenan, who runs Catholic Relief Services operations in Honduras, explained how fallout from the political crisis over the ouster of President Manual Zelaya has affected CRS programs in the country.
