A World Politics Review article authored by Monterey Institute students Seda Savas (MAIPS ’09 / MBA ’10) and Aaron Stein (MAIPS ’10) critically reviews recent actions that have had the effect of restricting press freedoms in Turkey. Their essay details recent incidents illustrating the suppression of opposing viewpoints in Turkish mass media, in contrast with calls from the European Union for Turkey to embrace greater press freedoms prior to admission to the Union. Savas, a native of Turkey, earned her master’s degree in International Policy Studies last spring and continues to pursue an MBA, while Stein is a first-year student in the International Policy Studies program, with a focus on Middle East policy.
