As part of her master's degree program in public administration, Kayla Howe participated in the Development Project Management Institute program (DPMI)*. DPMI is an intensive 3-week program offered at various locations such as Monterey, Washington D.C. and now Kenya, either as part of a degree program or not, and its objective is to prepare aspiring professionals for a career managing international development projects.

After graduation, Kayla is headed to Washington D.C., where she will be employed by the US State Department as a consular officer. She is looking forward to building on the experience she has gained at MIIS and to utilize the skills she has honed through different activities, most notably DPMI where she had the opportunity to work on her facilitation, cooperation and organizational skills and prepare for her chosen career.

"The MIIS Experience in 60 Seconds" features a different student each week from a range of degree programs offered at the Monterey Institute of International Studies. In these short videos, the students elaborate on topics such as why they chose to come to MIIS, what has surprised them about the Monterey Institute, what kinds of cool things they've been involved in—both on and off campus, and more.
