It has become a cherished Monterey Institute summer tradition to welcome a group of Fulbright students from around the world for a four-week course designed to prepare them for graduate studies at various U.S. universities. The students have the opportunity to improve their English language skills and learn about U.S. culture and customs through different classes, field trips and interacting with Monterey residents through the “Dinners in the Community” program.

This year the 32 Fulbright students participating in the program from 23 different countries were treated to a special lesson about the U.S. government and political system from Representative Sam Farr, an alumnus of the Monterey Institute’s Summer Intensive Language Program. Congressman Farr also shared with the students his experience as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Colombia and answered questions about U.S. foreign policy and other issues of interest to the group.
