Well over two hundred Monterey Institute alumni gathered in Monterey this past weekend for Reunion 2013, four days of diverse events filled with good food, memories, laughter, networking opportunities and a fun run.

Alumni traveled from as far away as India, Singapore, Norway and Tajikistan, and from as close by as a few blocks away here in Monterey. All shared the desire to meet dear old friends and re-connect with the Institute. Judging by the number of hugs, laughter, late nights and early mornings, they got all of that and even more.

At the farewell pancake breakfast on Sunday morning, one alumna described the event as: “Probably the best weekend of my life!” She went on to say that even though a number of years had passed since she and her friends graduated, they quickly returned to their old comfortable communication style and friendship, giving them the chance to relive the great time they had as students at the Monterey Institute. Other alumni from ever further back, from when the Institute was called the Monterey Institute of Foreign Studies, seemed to fall just as easily back into their old routines, enjoying every moment of their time together while learning more about the many innovations and changes on campus over the years.

All in all, it is clear that a high bar has been set for the next alumni reunion. We can’t wait to welcome alumni back to campus for another great event in 2015 when the Institute celebrates its 60th anniversary!
