Art Installation Celebrates Community as MIIS Prepares to Host TEDxMonterey
April 12, 2013
Celebrating the collective power of individuals and the importance of community, volunteers used paste made from flour, water and a sprinkling of sugar to mount large posters in the spirit of the global Inside Out Project on the Monterey Institute’s McCone building on April 10. The art action (as the installations are known) sparked a lot of interest from people walking by, and many stopped to roll up their sleeves and help with the pasting.
At the end of this sunny Monterey day, the outer wall of the McCone building was graced with the faces of 38 members of the collective Monterey Institute and Monterey Peninsula community, showing that together, we are one.
The installation of this art project marked the beginning of the final countdown to TEDxMonterey “Leading Out” on Saturday April 13th – a popular annual event held at the Monterey Institute celebrating our community and ideas worth sharing. To check out this year’s impressive line-up of speakers and to watch the live-streaming of the event, visit tedxmonterey.org. Monterey Institute students will interpret the event simultaneously into seven different languages.
The Inside Out Project is the brainchild of TED 2011 Prize winner JR, who has a vision of changing the world through large-scale participatory art projects like this where people stand up for what they care about.
