The Monterey Institute of International Studies expects to enroll 20 military veterans in its international graduate programs on full scholarships this fall thanks to a combination of Institute scholarship funds and the Yellow Ribbon GI Education Enhancement Program. The program, established by the Post-9/11 Veterans Educational Assistance Act of 2008, provides generous scholarship funding for qualifying veterans who enroll at postsecondary institutions willing to offer matching scholarship support.
The Yellow Ribbon program offers two scholarship grants, an initial base grant calculated on a state-by-state basis, and then a second one matching dollar-for-dollar any scholarship funding the institution offers to the admitted student, up to half of the remaining cost of education. The Institute has already admitted seven veterans through the Yellow Ribbon program and hopes to enroll at least 13 more in the coming weeks.
