1/31: Dance Company of Middlebury to Perform Outdoors at MIIS Campus
January 30, 2013
The Monterey Institute is proud to welcome the Dance Company of Middlebury, currently on its 30th anniversary tour of California. The Company will present “Compass: an original site work” with musician David Schulman at the Samson Center Courtyard at 12:15 PM on Thursday, January 31. The event is open to the public; the Samson Center Courtyard is located at 453 Van Buren Street in downtown Monterey.
Andrea Olsen, director of the Dance Company says site work is always exhilarating “because anything can happen – and does! People, weather and the specifics of the place are unpredictable.” Andrea is pioneering the first semester-long Middlebury Visiting Scholar position at MIIS. She will be teaching several courses and hosting a lecture series title “The Body in Education” featuring Middlebury faculty and guests. In her own words Andrea teaches “the science of body and the science of place.” At the Monterey Institute we are looking forward to an exciting semester finding our compass, starting with an “unpredictable” dance performance.
