MIIS Students: Thankful for New Friends and Getting to Spend Thanksgiving with Family
November 20, 2012
In the spirit of the season of giving thanks in the United States, members of the Monterey Institute community are sharing expressions of gratitude. We continue our series with a common sighting on the Monterey campus – friends from different continents.
New friends Whitney Hales (MBA/MAIEP ’14), who is studying for the joint MBA and International Environmental Policy degree, and Inge Kristensen, an exchange student from Copenhagen Business School (CBS), did not hesitate when asked what they were thankful for. “My family,” said Whitney without missing a beat, “and I can’t wait to see them for Thanksgiving.” Her parents and younger brother Spencer will travel from Louisiana to Dallas, where she and her boyfriend will join them at her older sister Alexandra’s house.
Inge Kristensen says her experience here in Monterey this semester has been, in a word “perfect,” and adds that she loves “the weather, the people, and the nature.” She is thankful for “getting to know so many lovely American people who have been so welcoming to us,” speaking of herself and her Danish and Norwegian roommates. “They invite us to everything and we are having the best time.” Inge and her friends have decided to “go American” this week and celebrate Thanksgiving with a turkey and possibly even “do the Black Friday thing.”
Both Whitney and Inge share a passion for sustainable business and are looking forward to building on the connections they are forming in graduate school at the Monterey Institute in their future careers.
