The Monterey’s Institute’s commitment to immersive learning includes an emphasis on summer fellowship and internship opportunities all over the world. These placements put students on the ground using and further developing their skills while working on real-world issues in a professional capacity with organizations of all sizes and shapes, from UNESCO to frontier market entrepreneurs.

This year, participants in several of these fellowships and internships are offering a window into their unique experiences, blogging about their activities in real time. Here are just a few of the stories you can follow on the MIIS blogging community:

  • Feel the waves as “conservation entrepreneur” Anja Mondragon (MAIEP ’13, MBA ’14) – in the process of earning both an International Environmental Policy and International MBA degree – takes on a night snorkel on the coral reef in Belize.
  • Join Team Peru as they first encounter the Sacred Valley where students like Ashley Anderson (MPA ’13) of the Master of Public Administration program are carrying on a multi-year tradition of service promoting sustainable economic development.
  • Delve into the Israeli Defense Force’s Code of Ethics with Nonproliferation and Terrorism Studies student Matthew Thomas (MANPTS ’12).
  • Listen in as Jen Classas (MPA ’13) works with the growing network of social entrepreneurs in Bogota, Colombia.
  • Chuckle and nod as Laura Henson (MAIEP ’13) muses on the cultural barriers she has encountered (and overcome) on an internship with UNESCO in Madrid.

Follow all of these students and many more through their unique summer adventures via the MIIS Abroad blog.
