National Health Care Debate Comes to MIIS

As an active part of the Monterey Bay area community, the Monterey Institute of International Studies often allows community groups to use its facilities. On Monday evening, Congressman Sam Farr (an Institute alumnus) held a town hall in the Institute’s Irvine Auditorium on the subject of the health care proposal currently being considered by the U.S. Congress. The media has given significant attention recently to the active and at times raucous debates occurring at similar town halls across the country, and this one was no different. Both the auditorium itself and an overflow area where an audio feed of the town hall was available were filled, with the crowd spilling out onto the sidewalk on Pierce Street in downtown Monterey. Local coverage of the town hall included the Monterey County Herald and the Salinas Californian.
