"Professor Jason Scorse's approach to environmental policy is truly what I like most about the International Environmental Policy program."
During her junior year of college, Alexandra Ogden studied abroad in Ecuador and the Galapagos, inspiring her to pursue an environmental career. However, it wasn't until she took a class with Professor Jason Scorse at the Monterey Institute that she knew she had made the right decision.
"That class entirely changed the way I looked at environmental problems and reassured me that studying International Environmental Policy had been the right choice for me," Alexandra said.
She thinks that too often environmentalists live down to the stereotypical title of "granola-crunching, tree-hugging hippies" and Professor Scorse stressed the importance of being above that.
"He told us all that in his opinion environmentalists need to be capable of making the economic argument for their cause and if they cannot do so, then they do not deserve to be taken seriously," she said. "That view really appealed to me from the beginning and has entirely changed the way I view environmental issues."
