Program: International Environmental Policy

Fast Fact: Spent a whole afternoon diving with great white sharks in South Africa
"I like the tight knit community and the responsiveness of the program to student needs."
Kat Gordon's passion is international development, particularly sustainable agriculture. That made the Monterey Institute a perfect place for Kat to pursue a master's degree in International Environmental Policy (IEP). With its international focus and a specialization in Business, Sustatinability and Development, the IEP program offered the skill set Kat was looking for.
"I choose IEP because I believe that the way we address the global environmental challenges that we face today will frame the way in which governments and society functions in the future," said Gordon. "With an IEP degree, I feel I can work on and design projects that promote international development in environmentally responsible ways."
Kat also believes that the language component at MIIS is essential for her professional goal of working on small scale agriculture projects in South America.
"Without the ability to communicate in the language where you work, it makes no difference how deeply you understand global/local environmental challenges or how progressive your solutions may be," Gordon said.
And as a member of Team Peru, Kat was able to apply the professional skills and knowledge she obtained at MIIS in a real world project.
"This opportunity afforded to me by MIIS shaped my career path in a profound way," she said. "I am now moving to Peru to work!"
