Dr. Jonathan B. Tucker (1954 – 2011)
Scholarship Established in Memory of Jonathan Tucker, Longtime Monterey Institute Staff Member
April 20, 2012
It was with great sadness that the Monterey Institute community learned of the passing of respected scholar, colleague and friend Dr. Jonathan B. Tucker in August 2011. A valued staff member at the Institute’s James Martin Center for Nonproliferation Studies (CNS) for over 15 years, Dr. Tucker was, in the words of CNS Director William Potter, “unsurpassed as a writer, producing brilliant books at an amazing pace, and with great modesty, and seemingly little effort.” Potter goes on to describe his friend as the “epitome of the gentleman scholar, mentor to young and old alike, and respected by everyone.”
In that wonderful spirit, on April 19 the Institute launched the Jonathan B. Tucker Memorial Scholarship, to be awarded to students in the Master of Arts in Nonproliferation and Terrorism program who specialize in chemical and biological nonproliferation issues.
