MontereySTART: New Platform for Micro-Philanthropy Launched

Monterey Institute students are known worldwide for their ingenuity and practical approach to addressing some of the world’s most pressing problems. It is now easier than ever to support student projects through the newly launched micro-philanthropy platform MontereySTART.
Four projects are currently featured on MontereySTART and they reflect the diverse interests and talents of the Monterey Institute student body:
- A group of students in the Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) program are raising funds to continue offering free English lessons to Monterey County residents at the Peace Resource Center in Seaside.
- Monterey Institute alumni and friends in the Washington D.C. area are raising funds for the D.C. Scholarship Fund, helping to support students planning an internship or professional experience in the nation’s capital.
- Twelve current students are preparing for taking a winter term course in Nepal to learn about the “Challenges to Peacebuilding” first hand, as part of their training to become peacebuilders in societies emerging from war.
- Monterey Institute students and alumni are spearheading efforts to combat malnutrition by building greenhouses in the remote Andean region of Peru and engaging communities in a transformative learning process.
