Winter commencement ceremonies for the Monterey Insitute were held on Saturday, December 10th.
As is tradition, bagpipes and flags of the countries represented in the graduating class led a procession of faculty and students from the Monterey Institute to the Monterey Conference Center for the graduation ceremony.
After opening remarks from President Ramaswamy, California Assemblyman and former Monterey Institute professor Bill Monning gave the commencement address. Monning encouraged graduates to use the opportunities that come with their diploma to make a difference in a world facing many challenges.
Rawan Bannoura, from Bethlehem, Palestine, was the student speaker. She talked about leaving a comfortable job as an accountant to pursue a Public Adminstration degree so that she can have an impact on people's lives in her country.
In all, 88 students from 16 countries received their diplomas.
