Professor Holly Mikkelson at the ATA Conference after receiving the Alexander Gode Medal
Professor Holly Mikkelson Receives American Translators Association’s Highest Award
November 1, 2011
At its annual conference last week, the American Translators Association (ATA) awarded its highest honor to Monterey Institute professor Holly Mikkelson.
The Alexander Gode Medal, the ATA’s most prestigious award, was presented to Professor Mikkelson at the annual meeting of membership last Thursday morning with approximately 1,000 translation and interpretation professionals in attendance. The medal was awarded by ATA President (now Immediate Past President) Nicholas Hartmann.
Professor Mikkelson is a state and federally certified court interpreter, and has been a consultant to court interpreter regulatory and training entities such as the California Judicial Council and the National Center for State Courts. She has published extensively on court and community interpreting. In addition to the ATA, she is a member of the National Association of Judiciary Translators and Interpreters, and the Conference of Interpreter Trainers. She has spoken at conferences and presented workshops throughout the country and all over the world.
"I am extremely honored and gratified to have received this recognition from my colleagues, which only reinforces my commitment to advancing the profession and educating the translators and interpreters of the future," said Professor Mikkelson.
“We’re delighted that Holly has received this well-deserved recognition,” commented Renee Jourdenais, Dean of the Institute’s Graduate School of Translation, Interpretation, and Language Education. “Faculty members such as Holly are one of the reasons the Institute’s translation and interpretation programs are among the most respected in the world.”
