The opportunity to learn from a true master is a “priceless experience” – and precisely the words used by students lucky enough to participate in the recent weekend workshop on the Nuclear Weapons Free Zone in the Middle East taught by the world-renowned expert Ambassador Nabil Fahmy.
Twenty-four students as well as some visiting fellows at the James Martin Center for Nonproliferation Studies attended the classes to learn about the nonproliferation issues in the Middle East from Nabil Fahmy, who served as Egypt’s Ambassador to the United States and Japan and has been involved with deliberations over a possible nuclear weapons-free zone in the Middle East for over 35 years.
The feedback from students in the workshop was extremely positive. “He painted a portrait of the events taking place in nonproliferation negotiations, explaining how history unfolds,” said Karim Kamel (MANPTS ’12) “and I left this workshop with a deeper understating of the nonproliferation issue in the Middle East. Ryan Vigneux (MANPTS ’12) added: “I thoroughly enjoyed the course and learned an immense amount because of Ambassador Fahmy's insider perspective.”
