The Monterey Institute today announced the purchase of the building and property at 499 Van Buren Street, on the corner of Jefferson and Van Buren Streets. The 10,490-square-foot building currently houses the professional offices of the law firm of Horan, Lloyd, Karachale, Dyer, Schwartz, Law & Cook.

The building will be leased back to the law firm temporarily while it relocates in Monterey, before being transitioned for use by the Institute as faculty and/or administrative offices. This additional office space is expected to free up existing office space in other buildings on the Monterey Institute campus to be reconfigured into classroom space. Several buildings on the Institute campus are currently dual-use, housing both administrative offices and classroom space.

The property is across Pierce Street from the main faculty office building at Pierce and Jefferson, and just down the block from the central campus on Van Buren Street, where the Samson Student Center, William Tell Coleman Library and MIIS President’s Office are all located. As currently configured, the building includes 21 offices, plus conference rooms, open work areas and other facilities. Included on the 18,437-square-foot property are 24 parking spaces.

Purchase of the building and property was made by the President and Fellows of Middlebury College on behalf of the Monterey Institute, which became a graduate school of Middlebury College in July 2010.
