The winner of the sixth annual Leslie Eliason Excellence in Teaching Award is Professor Wei Liang, according to a May 16 announcement from Monterey Institute Provost Amy Sands. “Since arriving on campus, Professor Wei Liang has worked hard to engage students in meaningful learning experiences and activities and to establish an interactive learning environment for our students” said Provost Sands. “As a professor dedicated to her students and to delivering quality education, Professor Liang embodies much of what Professor Eliason dedicated her teaching efforts towards. Leslie Eliason was a strong woman, dynamic and passionate about her chosen profession of teaching.”
Professor Wei Liang, who joined the Monterey Institute in the fall of 2007, is a professor of International Policy Studies and a research fellow with the Center for East Asian Studies. She teaches popular courses like The China Factor and the International Trade Negotiation Simulation. A committee of students, staff and faculty annually makes a final selection from a pool of nominated candidates.
Professor Liang will be recognized with a special luncheon celebration at the beginning of the fall semester. As the winner of the annual Eliason award, Professor Liang will receive $10,000 to support professional development in her field.
