The Middlebury College Choir performs in Irvine Auditorium.
April 1, 2011
The Middlebury College Choir performed to a full house at the Irvine Auditorium on the Monterey Institute campus on March 28. The 35-member choir is an auditioned ensemble of Middlebury undergraduates. They enjoy singing music of major styles and time periods of the choral canon, including folk music, world music, American music and new compositions.
Conductor Jeffrey Buettner led the choir through the concert, providing the audience with a snapshot of varied musical styles ranging from soaring Renaissance sacred music, to sweet melodies such as the Hebrew song of peace Oseh Shalom, to the recently composed jazzy National Weather Forecast by Henry Mollicione. The last song was a special crowd-pleaser for the California audience, describing miserable weather around the country and then countering with the chorus line: “But California will be sunny and mild.”
