Students, alumni and recruiters at the 2011 MIIS Career Fair
Largest Monterey Institute Career Fair Yet a Great Success
March 1, 2011
The annual Monterey Institute Career Fair drew 97 employers to Monterey on February 25 for the opportunity to interact with students and alumni. Also, 18 additional organizations collected resumes at the event. This was the largest career fair the Institute has hosted. Every year the diversity of employers represented increases.
“Hearing from Monterey Institute alumni about their career trajectory, stories of success and what they would have done differently was very useful to me as a student,” says Nelle Sacknoff (MPA ’12). She has followed up with some of the professionals who came to speak on the panels and reports. They have all responded favorably, a great reminder of the power of human contact and networking. Sarah Ruegg (MPA ’11) agrees, “It was really nice to speak to a person rather than an SPSS database,” referring to the often impersonal process of applying for an official position in a government or large organization.
Recruiters attending the career fair included government agencies, such as the U.S. Agency for International Development, Central Intelligence Agency and Department of State; private sector leaders, such as Apple, Disney and Facebook; and nonprofit organizations, such as the American Red Cross, InterAction and the Sustainability Academy.
