Monterey Institute Professor Gordon Hahn is also senior researcher at the Monterey Terrorism Research and Education Program (MonTREP). His Islam, Islamism and Politics in Eurasia Report No. 33 from January 26, 2011, featuring new statistics on Jihadist violence in Russia during 2010, was recently quoted by news organizations including Reuters, the Washington Post and the Moscow Times. Professor Hahn was also interviewed on KFPK radio in Los Angeles on January 27.
The recent suicide bomb attack at Moscow’s Domodedovo International Airport renewed international media interest and speculation about security and stability in Russia. According to Dr. Hahn’s research, Islamist attacks in Russia were up by 14 percent in 2010, with most of them occurring in the North Caucasus region.
