Dr. Reza Aslan, author of the international bestseller “No god but God: The Origins, Evolution, and Future of Islam,” will deliver a public lecture at the Monterey Institute of International Studies at 6:00 p.m. on November 4 in the Irvine Auditorium inside the McCone Building, 499 Pierce Street, Monterey.

“No god but God: The Origins, Evolution, and Future of Islam” has been translated into 13 languages, and named one of the 100 most important books of the last decade. Dr. Aslan is also the author of “How to Win a Cosmic War” (published in paperback as “Beyond Fundamentalism: Confronting Religious Extremism in a Globalized Age”), and editor of an upcoming anthology titled “Tablet & Pen: Literary Landscapes from the Modern Middle East.”

Dr. Aslan, an internationally acclaimed writer and scholar of religions, is a contributing editor at “The Daily Beast” (thedailybeast.com). He holds degrees from Santa Clara University, Harvard University, and the University of California, Santa Barbara, and serves on the board of directors of the Ploughshares Fund, which gives grants for peace and security issues, Abraham’s Vision, an interfaith peace organization, and PEN USA, which champions the rights of writers under siege around the world.

Born in Iran, Dr. Aslan now lives in Los Angeles, where he is associate professor of Creative Writing at the University of California, Riverside.

This event is free and open to the public, and will be followed by a book signing with Dr. Aslan.  Books will be available for purchase at the event.
