Fisher International MBA Program Chair Bruce Paton working with students.

August 13, 2010 - 12:00am

On Friday, August 20, the Monterey Institute’s Graduate School of International Policy and Management (GSIPM) will host the GSIPM Expo “Shaping a New Era: Business and Policy Solutions” showcasing the work of over 70 students. Students will present research and findings on topics ranging from “The Role of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles in Modern Warfare” to “Youth-Led Development Projects at UN-HABITAT” at the Institute’s downtown Monterey campus.

The expo, the first of its kind, will showcase the achievements of graduating students in various degree programs who participated in three unique GSIPM offerings—the International Professional Service Semester, the International Business Plan and the Development Project Management Institute Practicum:

  • International Professional Service Semester (IPSS) started in 2001 with the goal of providing policy students with the opportunity to spend six months working for an international organization in their field while also completing a significant research project towards their graduate degree. The 2010 IPSS group includes 41 students serving 41 different organizations in 14 different countries.

  • International Business Plan (IBP) is a required team-based consulting capstone project for students in the Fisher International MBA program. Cross-functional and cross-cultural teams work with a sponsoring company under faculty supervision to develop comprehensive plans for international growth and expansion.

  • Development Project Management Institute Practicum (DPMI Plus) began in 2008 to provide students completing the three-week DPMI training with an opportunity to apply their planning, evaluation, and facilitation skills to complete academic deliverables while serving a social change organization in the field.

Please note that while the public is welcome at all of the IPSS and DPMI Plus presentations, due to the proprietary nature of the International Business Plan presentations, these sessions are closed, with all attendees subject to client confidentiality agreements.
