The Monterey Institute offers a wide variety of special programs ranging from intensive language courses and specialized custom language programs to intense training for professionals in the fields of international trade and development. No matter what time of year you visit the Monterey campus, happy voices can be heard in dozens of languages. The summer is no exception.

This year there are 165 summer students studying English across seven different programs. Some are preparing to enter graduate schools in the US this fall, while others are participating in more specialized programs such as a group of Japanese engineers studying “English for Science.”

The Summer Intensive Language Program has been offered since 1950 and provides students with a unique opportunity to gain a solid foundation or increase proficiency in a language. Currently there are 118 students engaged in the study of four different languages on campus: Chinese, Spanish, Arabic and French.

The Development Project Management Institute (DPMI) is always popular and this summer 78 people participated in two different sessions, in Monterey and Washington DC. DPMI is a three-week immersive, and very practical, training program to prepare for a career in international development.

The Institute is expecting around 30 people for two sessions of the Global Trade and Development Program from at least 14 different countries. The Global Trade and Development Program is a three week intensive program combining class work with field exposure to international trade experts working in agriculture and technology industries in California.
