PBS Newshour Features CNS Deputy Director’s Comments on U.S.-Iran Face-off
May 4, 2010
In a report titled “Iran Draws Western Criticism at Opening of U.N. Nuclear Talks,” PBS Newshour featured commentary from Leonard S. Spector, deputy director of the Monterey Institute’s James Martin Center for Nonproliferation Studies. The Newshour, hosted by Jim Lehrer, is one of the nation’s most respected national news broadcasts, featuring in-depth reporting on current political and economic developments. In his interview, Spector characterized Monday’s speech by Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad as “a face-off between the United States and Iran” over the latter’s nuclear program and noted that, in response, “Iran's strategy is to deflect attention away from Iran.”
