In an April 18 article, the New York Times cites Assemblymember Bill Monning´s experience as teacher of international negotiation and conflict resolution at the Monterey Institute of International Studies as one of the assets he will bring to the task of implementing federal health care reform at the state level.

Assemblymember Monning was recently chosen to chair the influential Assembly Health Committee. The Times profile suggests his experience as a teacher of negotiation may help him to reach across party lines on the often contentious issue of health care reform, a suggestion Monning agrees with: “It´s been most useful in the committees where you can meet with stakeholders on either side of an issue and help bring them to some level of consensus or compromise.”

Bill Monning taught negotiation classes at the Monterey Institute for many years and is the former president and co-founder of Global Majority, Inc., an organization committed to education, training and advocacy in the field of non-violent conflict resolution.
