Middlebury Board of Trustees Approves Final Agreement with MIIS
March 3, 2010
On February 20, the Middlebury College Board of Trustees approved the final agreement under which the Monterey Institute will become a graduate school of Middlebury on June 30, 2010. In his post-meeting report to the Middlebury community, President Ron Liebowitz praised the “final step in a process that began with the Middlebury-Monterey affiliation nearly five years ago,” and noted the Institute’s accomplishments over the course of the five-year affiliation period, in particular its “impressive” reorganization, enrollment growth, and financial stability.
“The integration of the Monterey Institute as a graduate school of Middlebury College is the culmination of five years of collaboration,” commented Monterey Institute Board of Trustees Chair William Kieffer, also a Middlebury College emeritus trustee. “The two institutions are so complementary that the combination of them is sure to enrich the educational experience for students at both campuses.”
President Liebowitz also commented extensively on the promise of the Middlebury-Monterey relationship and other major areas of focus for the College in a recent address to the Middlebury campus community.
